Believe it or not, the world is getting kinder!

At one time, anyone who appeared different due to a physical or psychological issue was marginalized, if not isolated.

Today, people recognize the others' differences and challenges as simply another facet of life.

Have we reached a perfect society? Not by a long shot.

Are we getting there? You bet!

What's more, every act of kindness and goodness you perform, no matter how small,
helps hasten the process.

Hastening a New Era through acts of goodness and kindness

Acts of goodness and kindness have the power to overhelm the violence and negativity that is so prevalent today. Here are some stories of how people are using kindness to make the world a gentler, holier place:

Seven Laws for Seventy Nations

The Noahide (or Noachide) Code of 7 Divine Commandments was given to Noah and his children after the flood, and given to mankind once again by Moses on Mount Sinai.

The Divine Code is the foundation of all true morality. Following these commandments ensures that humanity will not degenerate into a lawless, uncivilized, chaotic environment again. The laws prohibit (1) idolatry, (2) blasphemy, (3) homicide, (4) forbidden relations, (5) robbery, and (6) eating meat that was taken from a still-living animal (cruelty to animals), and require (7) establishment of courts of justice. The precepts included in these commandments provide the guidelines for truly moral behavior.

Swords into Plowshares

Isaiah 2:4 predicts, "They will beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning knives. Nation will not lift up sword against nation, nor will they learn war any more."

On the surface, it's hard to see this happening. Yet like so many other things, the momentum is gathering. Here are exciting examples of museums and other activities dedicated to putting the artifacts of war on display for peaceful purposes.

Moshiach - The Evolving Reality for all Mankind

For thousands of years, man has had a vision of an ideal society, free of war, hate, sickness and pain.

This is the Jewish vision of the Messianic Era.

During this era, sorrow and sadness, pain and confusion, want and desire will disappear. G-d will become the ultimate reality and we will devote ourselves to strengthening the relationship between G-d and this physical world.

As Maimonides states in the Laws of Kings (12:5), “In that Era, there will be neither famine nor war, neither envy nor competition, for good things will flow in abundance and all delights will be freely available as dust. The occupation of the entire world will be solely to know G-d."

Starting in 5751 (1990), the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi M. M. Schneerson began quoting the Midrash Yalkut Shemoni, “The time of your redemption has arrived.” In essence, the Rebbe was telling us that Moshiach may come at any moment. It is even truer today.

How do we know?  The signs are all around us!

Torah as the Word of Infinite G-d to Man

The Jews are called the "People of the Book."

There is just one problem. The Torah is not a book!  The proof?  The word “Torah” is related to the Hebrew world horaah, which means “instruction.” It teaches us how live our lives in a holy way, and since life involves many different activities, the Torah addresses them.

Agriculture: “You shall not plant the vineyard with mixed seeds.” (Deuteronomy 22:9)
Business: “A perfect and just weight shall you have; a perfect and just measure shall you have.” (Deuteronomy 25:15)
Behavior: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. (Levitcus 19:18)
Civil Law: “If indeed the theft be found in his hand alive, whether an ox or donkey or sheep, he             must pay double.” (Exodus 22:3)

Yet the Torah is much more than a rule book for living in a holy way.  Every word and every letter is woven into the very fabric of creation.  The result is a living and evolving dynamic force of energy  that reveals G-d's will to man. As the Messianic Era comes closer, these dimensions of Torah are being revealed.

The following links will demonstrate just some of amazing facets of the Torah.

MERE COINCIDENCE OR DIVINE TRUTH?

Social and Political Systems

For centuries, the power pyramid represented the way societies were organized and run. The person at the top could be an elder, a religious or spiritual advisor, a natural leader, or someone who took power by any means.

The closer one was to the person at the top, the more power/influence, the individual had. Eventually, those close to the top became “gatekeepers” who drew strength from the ability to control access to someone with even greater power.

As a result, the people far from the top, e.g., those at the bottom of the power pyramid, had very little, if any, say in the way things were run or done. There were exceptions, of course, but the fundamental character or nature of these social and political organizations have remained the same.

Yet a change is occurring. There is a growing realization that the power pyramid, and its associated rigidity, is inherently limited. The world is complex and changing too rapidly for one person to serve at the top. Smart leaders, therefore, are turning into facilitators. They are achieving success for the organization or the political system by enabling others to succeed at their individual jobs.

The ultimate facilitator is the Jewish Messiah. Like the first Jewish leader, Moses, the Messiah will be self-effacing and humble before all men, women, and children. As a G-dly person, his goal will be helping people reflect the inherent spark of G-dliness with them. Currently, the Messiah is hidden.

However, the world he represents is breaking upon us like the dawn.

Moshiach the Man

Moshiach means the "anointed one."

Maimonides lists a number of criteria that a person must fulfill to be Moshiach. For example, he must be a man who is born to human parents and have free choice. He must be a recognized leader and a Torah scholar. He must be devoted to others. Above all, he must be dedicated to serving G-d and spreading G-d's influence in the world.

Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, (1902-1994), the seventh leader in the Chabad-Lubavitch dynasty, and known all over the world as "the Rebbe" has met all these criteria.

For nearly five decades, the Rebbe worked to bring Moshiach to the world. His message was as universal as his mission, "You are Divinely gifted with enormous strength and energy -- actualize it!"

The following stories demonstrate that, despite the Rebbe's passing, the shepherd has not abandoned his flock. nor did he abandon his mission.

Science/Environment

Science is the study of order. the intellectual and practical activity encompassing the systematic study of physical and natural world through observation and experiment.

At one time, scientists believed that the various systems under their study were either discrete or had a fairly limited in effect on other systems.

As the Era of the Redemption approaches, scientists are discovering relationships that were previously hidden, and aware of how finely tuned and miraculously intricate the various systems that make up our world really are.

The following articles demonstrate how disparate systems are linked, and that ultimately, united on a very fundamental level.
